Flying Eagles coach Manu Garba has said the win over North Korea has lifted his side’s spirit to beat Hungary on Sunday at the ongoing Fifa Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
The African champions dusted themselves off from a 2-4 match day 1 loss to five-time champions Brazil to whip Korea 4-0 on Thursday.
A win or a draw on Sunday against second-placed side Hungary will send the Flying Eagles through to the knockout stage of the 2015 World Cup in New Zealand.
“Our win against Korea has motivated the team after we lost our first game to Brazil on Monday at the Stadium Taranaki in New Plymouth.
“We want to at least finish second in our group and so we want the maximum points against Hungary.
“We came here to win every game because we want to win the World Cup. We don’t want to go back home early, we want to be the last team to leave New Zealand,” said Garba.
Garba, however, admitted the side are up against a good and well-organised Hungary team, who finished fourth in an Under-19 European Championship they hosted last year.
“Even as we wish to win this match, we have to say Hungary are a good side but they cannot afford to stay back in defence against us as they did against Brazil because we have one of the best attacks in this competition,” said the former Golden Eaglets coach to NFF website, www.thenff.com.
