Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State on Wednesday urged members of the public to give maximum support to all security agencies in the country.
Wamakko made the call in Sokoto when he received five patrol vehicles donated by the MTN Foundation to the Police Command in Sokoto State.
The vehicles were handed over to Wamakko at a ceremony in Sokoto for onward delivery to the command.
The governor urged other organisations in Nigeria to support security agencies to enable them function diligently in the country.
He said, “Battling the security challenges is not for the government alone but for all the citizens.
“The support to the various security agencies will surely bolster their operations as well as further motivate them to discharge their duties without any blemish.’’
He commended the foundation for supporting the efforts of the federal and state governments in ensuring that the lingering security challenges were reduced to the barest minimum.
Wamakko also urged the police in the state to utilise the vehicles properly to further guarantee the security of lives and property.
The Director-General of the MTN Foundation, Hajiya A’isha Sadauki, said that the foundation initiated the support programme to complement the efforts of government in tackling the security challenges in the country.
Sadauki said that the programme would cover the 36 states, and that Kano, Kaduna, Yobe, Maiduguri and Bayelsa, had already benefited.
“The foundation is always ready to support any activities of the government and to help in further uplifting the living standard of Nigerians,” Sadauki said.
