Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed he told his players that their game against Queen’s Park Rangers could be a fresh start before their 4-0 win.
Van Gaal had made a disappointing start to life in England after replacing David Moyes as United manager this summer, and he failed to win any of the club’s opening four games.
It was clear the club needed to strengthen their squad, and they added Radamel Falcao and Daley Blind on transfer deadline day. Blind and Marcos Rojo made their debuts in a new-look starting eleven, while Falcao also made his United bow as a second-half substitute.
The former Netherlands manager had introduced a 3-5-2 system at United, but his players struggled to adapt to the new formation, and he changed to a 4-4-2 diamond against Harry Redknapp’s side.
His players immediately seemed more comfortable, and they responded with an impressive display, with goals from Angel Di Maria, Ander Herrera, Wayne Rooney, and Juan Mata.
