A security staff of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, was allegedly shot dead by unknown gunmen at his junior staff quarters residence. The murdered staff, identified simply as Chinedu Oranye, according to a source, was reportedly called on phone by his assailants around 12 midnight to come out to a designated place in the compound for talks, only to be shot dead University of Nigeria Nsukka.
The source also said while the deceased was allegedly talking with his assailants, their voices rose in argument, which allegedly compelled one of the assailants to pull out a gun and shoot the deceased on the legs. This angered late Chinedu, who pounced on the person that shot him.
Others that laid ambush pulled the trigger on his head before fleeing into the night. Vanguard gathered that the deceased, a father of three, was dead before the Chief Security Officer of the university, Mr. Romanus Nwafor, and the Divisional Police Officer arrived the scene. It was gathered that his remains were taken to the university medical centre and deposited at the morgue.
The Chief Security Officer, who confirmed the incident, said the Police and the security department of the university have commenced investigations to unravel the circumstances surrounding Oranye’s killing.
