Three persons, which include two females and a man, have been confirmed dead in an inter-ethnic clash that happened between the Hausa and the Igbo people in Imo State.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria report, the incident which took place in Akokwa community in Ideato Local Government Area of the state, was sparked when a northern man killed a girl, woman and then himself.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Enwerem, said that the inter-ethnic attacks was a reprisal attack from the Igbos who were outraged by the dastardly act committed by the Hausa resident of the town.
The police spokesman said that the man ran amok.
“Report to police showed that a yet to be identified northerner ran amok at Akokwa community and used weapons to attack and kill a girl and a woman and thereafter killed himself’’, Enwerem disclosed.
According to reports, the northern man, whose violent act has not been explained, chased the girl with a shovel.
Hoping for someone to rescue her, he reportedly ran to an elderly woman for protection, but this came to be of no use as the unidentified man killed the pair with a shovel.
