The Police in Ogun State have arrested a teenage herdsman with an AK-47 rifle in the Iwoye-Ketu area of the Imeko -Afon Local Government of the State. The suspect identified as Mohammed was arrested on Tuesday, following a tip-off that two young men of Fulani stock were sighted at Oha Forest with assault rifles. In a statement made available to Tribune Onlineby the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the Divisional Police Officer of Imeko, immediately acted on the information by mobilising his men, local hunters and members of the vigilance and So Safe Corps group stormed the forest to effect the arrest. The statement reads, “After hours of combing the forest, one Mohammed was seen hiding in the bush with one AK-47 rifle, and he was promptly arrested. “The arrested armed boy is strongly suspected to be a member of kidnap syndicates who has been terrorising the area for quite some time now. “Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for discreet investigation. “The CP also directed that the entire forest be properly combed with the view to apprehending other members of his gang.” (Text, excluding headline, courtesy Nigerian Tribune)
