Six employees of a company in Lagos and two others were on Tuesday
arraigned over the theft of properties of their employer worth N24
million.
The six are Mark Ekpo, 35; Gbenga Soyombo,37; Akindolire Tobi, 26;
Emmanuel Emod, 32; Seyi Ogunbayo, 47 , and Bright Hassan, 27.
They are facing charges of conspiracy and stealing before an Ebute-Meta
Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The two other accused, Kingsley Uchegwam, 26, and Christian Onyekaozulu,
40, were charged with receiving stolen items.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the six
employees stole lanollin and menthol chemicals at the premises of the
company on Wemco Road, Ogba, Lagos.
Osuji said that the men committed the offences between July 2013 and
June 2014 at N.N FENS Industries Ltd.
According to him, the accused, including drivers, a storekeeper and a
security guard, conspired to steal Lanolin and menthol chemicals worth
N24 million.
He said that when the storekeeper, Ekpo, was asked to account for drums
of chemicals sold between July 2013 and June 2014, he could not account
for the missing ones.
Osuji said that the management of the company later invited the police
to investigate the
crime.
The prosecutor said that investigation by the police revealed that the
employees were culpable and had sold the stolen chemicals to the seventh
and eight accused.
He said that the offences committed contravened Sections 409, 285 and
326 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
All the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against
them.
The Magistrate, Mr E.O Ogunkanmi, granted the first to sixth accused
bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties.
