Youths loyal to Governor Chibuike Amaechi on Tuesday harassed judicial officials at the Rivers State High Court as they attempted to stop the resumption of the State Acting Chief Judge, Daisy Okocha. The youths who were conveyed to the area in buses disrupted the peace of the area.
It was learnt that they were detailed by a top official of the Government House to disrupt the peace.
Amaechi had attempted foisting a Chief Judge, Peter Agamagu on the State Judiciary by by-passing the National Judical Council, NJC. Agamagu is now under suspension for his alleged misconduct.
Having failed to impose Agamagu, Amaechi used officials of the State Judicial Staff to commence an indefinite strike that has crippled the state judiciary, while thugs are constantly deployed.
Mayhem was however averted as the police ensured that the hired youths did not gain access to the High Court Complex..
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Kadaya, however, said on the phone that the Police is on ground to provide security and would not be dragged into politics.
