The people of Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, have dragged the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, to the Federal High Court, Owerri, praying the court to order that they be allowed to use their Temporary Voters Card, TVC, during the forthcoming general elections.
The citizens hinged their prayer on what they called the inability of the commission to provide Permanent Voters Card, PVC, for the people of the area ahead of the polls.
In the suit filed on behalf of the people by Barr. Chinedu Mezu, the people also averred that it would amount to breach of their fundamental rights for the commission to insist on the use of the PVC for the elections when it was obvious that the none provision of the PVC was INEC’s fault.
Reacting to the development, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, candidate who is also from the area, Capt. Emmanuel Ihenacho, lamented that it was saddening that he didn’t have the PVC, even when the elections were around the corner.
Capt. Ihenacho, who spoke through his media aide, Barr. Emperor Iwuala, said it would have been a big embarrassment to the Imo APGA gubernatorial candidate if the election had held as earlier scheduled. Vanguard
