Former President Olusegun Obasanjo may have deliberately timed the release of his latest book ‘My Watch,’ close to electioneering campaign period, to provide ammunition for the opposition against President Goodluck Jonathan, according to people who claim to know him closely.
Some of them believe that the former president might still come out with more attacks on the president, all targeted at causing disaffection against him.
Sources close to the former president could not confirm or deny whether it was a deliberate timing, but they did not rule out the possibility.
Obasanjo on Monday defied a subsisting court order and launched his new book in which he made scathing attacks on President Jonathan, late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and even persons that served under him as ministers, according to snippets from the book.
Obasanjo, who contested with General Muhammadu Buhari in 2003, in the, accused the PDP of deliberately dubbing Buhari as religious bigot in order to make him in electable.
He went ahead to paint Buhari in a glorious picture that omakes clear his preference ahead of 2015.
But pundits wonder why he did not see these qualities in Buhari when he contested with him or even in 2007 when his anointed- Yar’Adua- was squaring up with Buhari.
It was obvious from the book that Obasanjo had beef against Late Yar’Adua before his death.
It was learnt that the former president is so miffed Pthat he would do anything to make President Jonathan fail in his bid for second term.
“Baba ( as Obasanjo is popularly known) is a man that does not forgive. His calculation on both YarAdua and Jonathan failed him completely, and he is so deeply hurt.
“He thought that he could still be running the show from behind with Yar’Adua or Jonathan on saddle, but both of them would not allow him to run their presidency.
“I can tell you he is bitter. He has people even in government who are his eyes and I bet you if he finds anything damaging to bring down Jonathan he would not hesitate to pull the string.”
One of the sources said that he would not be surprised if he plays some role in Buhari campaign.
According to this source, “the problem with Baba is that he does not want to be considered irrelevant In any scheme. He enjoys limelight a lot.”
