Governor of Niger State Abubakar Sani Bello announced Monday that he had tested positive for coronavirus.
In a short message on Twitter, the governor said:
“I have tested positive to #COVID19. However, I am asymptomatic and have gone into isolation.”
He did not provide further details.
Bello has joined the league of Nigerian governors who have been hit by the virus.
Others who had caught the bug are Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Nasir El-Rufai, Kaduna, Ifeanyi Okowa, Delta and Dave Umahi, Ebonyi.
Also affected were the governors of Ondo, Rotimi Akeredolu, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi.
Despite the rising numbers of cases of coronavirus in countries of America, Europe and Asia in second wave, the number of cases in Nigeria have been subdued despite low adoption of mask-wearing and safe-distancing protocols.
Figures released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Monday indicated that total infection numbers in Nigeria for the day stood at 94, even at a time the number in US is over 100,000 cases daily.
