Minister of sports and chairman National Sports Commission (NSC), Tammy Danagogo has directed the Chris Giwa-led faction of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to withdraw their case from court and embrace dialogue for an amicable resolution of the crisis in football.
The minister gave the directive yesterday during a welcome reception held for the members of victorious Super Falcons who just returned from Namibia where they won the Africa Women Championship (AWC) for
the seventh time.
He appealed to the warring factions to appreciate the victorious Super Falcons and embrace peace in the interest of the game.
“I want to call on members of the Nigeria Football Federation to close ranks in the spirit of this joyful moment of celebrating our gallant Super Falcons and embrace peace for the country to continue achieve more success.
“This is the time for all of us to close our ranks, withdraw all cases from court so that we can all sit at a round table, give and take and resolve all issues amicably,” he said He also called on corporate organisations to invest in the Super Falcons, noting that the team have great potentials to win major trophies for the country. The Super Falcons arrived Abuja yesterday to a warm reception from National Sports Commission officials and members of the sporting media.
Praising the team for winning the trophy for a record seventh time, Danagogo said, “We must as a government do everything possible to appreciate the crop of footballers we have in the Super Falcons. You will be in our hall of fame because against all odds you proved to all Nigerians and indeed all Africa that you still remain the undisputed champions of Africa. That is why I want all of us to support and encourage them and also to ask corporate Nigeria to begin to look into how to support women football in the country.” The players, who are lodged at Transcorp Hilton Hotel will be hosted by President Goodluck Jonathan today.
