Amidst growing tension over plot and counter-plot by some officials of the Nigeria Football Federation to handpick coaches for him, the 2013 AFCON Nations Cup winner told Saturday Vanguard Sports, that the NFF cannot ambush him in his choice of assistant coaches for the team.
Speaking through his manager and brother, Emmanuel Addo, Keshi said that he was only consulting with the NFF President, Amaju Pinnick and Chairman of the Technical Committee, Felix Anyansi-Agwu on how best to achieve the aim of making the Eagles super again and how to correct the wrongs of the past, which saw him running into troubled waters with some of his policies and tactics on the field of play.
“On the issue of assistant coaches for the Super Eagles, Keshi wants to make it clear that he is the one who will decide who his assistant coaches will be. Because it is a fresh start and he wants to do things differently, he is consulting with the NFF President and the Chairman of the Technical Committee, Anyansi-Agwu and even members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria.
“Keshi is asking questions from all stakeholders because he wants to make the team great again. It is not the NFF that will decide who his assistant coaches will be because they are under him and are going to work with him and nobody will force anybody on him”, said Keshi’s manager.
On the factors that will determine his choice, Addo said “Keshi said he wants assistant coaches who will tell him the truth and not play eye service and coaches who will work in harmony with him”.
