The Federal Government is pushing the candidacy of Dr. Akinwumi Adeshina, for the priced job of the presidency of African Development Bank.
President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday despatched a high-powered team led by Vice President Namadi Sambo to Algiers, the Capital City of Algeria to canvass the support of Algeria for the bid of the Nigeria’s Akinwumi.
On arrival in Algiers the Vice President was received by the Foreign Affairs Minister of Algeria Ramtare Lamamra at the Houari Bounediene International Airport Algiers. On Sunday the Vice-President met with the Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal in his office. Both of them discussed bilateral issues relating to the development and co-operation of their two countries in various fields.
The meeting had in attendance the Foreign Affairs Minister of Nigeria Amb. Aminu Wali, the Minister of Agriculture Dr. Akinwumi Adeshina and the Nigerian Ambassador to Algeria. Also the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture and Rural Development Ramtane Lamama and Abdelouahab Nouri were part of the exchange of views on a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest to both countries.
The Vice-President used the occasion to solicit for the support of Algeria towards the candidature of Dr. Akinwumi Adeshina for the Presidency of the African Development Bank AfDB). He thereafter presented a letter from Dr. Goodluck Jonathan to Abdelazeez Bouteflika the President of Algeria.
Highlights of the event was a presentation to the Prime Minister by Dr. AkinwumiAdeshina in flawless and impeccable French to outline his plans for the bank if elected as its President.
The VP jetted out to Algieria a day after reports emerged that the king of Morocco of had rejected a request for a phone conversation from President Jonathan.
