Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has said that his administration is committed to unravelling that causes of various civil disobedience in the state.
According to him, structures will be in place to nip on the bud any such contentions that can spiral into unrest.
Ugwuanyi, while addressing reporters at the Government House, after an emergency Security Council Meeting with all security heads and security agencies in the state, expressed sadness over the loss of lives during the August 23, 2020 clash between the security operatives and IPOB members, at Emene, and other similar incidents in the state, saying that they are of great concern to him.
“As the Chief Security Officer of the state, I am at all times committed, to doing all within my powers, to ensure the security of lives and property in Enugu State”.
He said he would do everything within his powers to preserve lives.
According to the governor, more time will be given to those in charge of finding the root cause of the ugly incident, to enable them come up with better results.
“Following the emergency Security Council meeting, it has become imperative to give those responsible for getting to the root of these unfortunate developments a little more time to complete their work.
“The events of 23rd August 2020 which culminated in the loss of lives of members of Nigerian Security Agencies and residents of Enugu State as well as recent reports of attacks on Railway Police Station, Ogui, on 28th August 2020 and Unity Police Station, Abakpa, on 30th August, 2020, where weapons were reportedly carted away, have been matters of great concern to me”.
The governor, therefore, urged those in custody of weapons snatched from security agents to return them through their respective traditional rulers who will, in turn, return same to the appropriate security agency.
Meanwhile, the State Security Council in the meeting approved the immediate joint patrol by all security agencies.
