Some gunmen allegedly invaded the country home of Senator Ayogu Eze, representing Enugu North in the Senate, with criminal motives but we’re staved off by the police and the youths of the area, according to a report in Vanguard.
The report indicates that State’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO Mr. Ebere Amarizu, said on Sunday that the state police command had not received a formal report over the alleged invasion of Senator Ayogu Eze’s country home at Enuguezike on Tuesday.
It was not clear what the motive of the attackers was. Senator contested the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, and had gone to court in continuation of his quest for the ticket which was won by Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who represents Igbo Eze/ Udenu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. Eze had gone to court to seek the court declaration that he was the rightful candidate of the party in the state.
His case failed: the Federal High Court in Abuja that handled the case ruled that he built his case on wrong assumptions.
Asked if any police officer was arrested in connection with the incident as speculated, Amaraizu said “I am not aware”.
The country home of Senator Ayogu Eze, representing Enugu North senatorial district, was allegedly attacked by gunmen who stormed the place at about 5.20 pm on Tuesday shooting sporadically into the air.
Mr Okechukwu Eze, a close relation of Senator Eze said that “if not for the quick intervention of police and youths from the village, the thugs could have started destroying my brother’s house and property.”
