The Federal Government has granted another extension to the ongoing National Identification Number and Subscriber Identity Module integration exercise this time by another eight weeks.
The new deadline is now April 6, 2021.
Director, Public Affairs, Nigerian Communications Commission, Ikechukwu Adinde, who disclosed this in a WhatsApp message to The Punch.
According to him, the extension was conveyed by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami.
Pantami conveyed the message during the meeting of the Ministerial Taskforce on NIN-SIM registration which held on the 1st of February, 2021.
When the Federal Government announced the exercise early December 2020, it gave December 31 as the deadline for compliance,which triggered outcryformembers if the public which the time span inadquate.
The government later bowed to pressure and shifted the deadlibe to January 19, 2021.
The latest shift is coming even as millions of Nigeria are yet to be captured under the NIN registration platform.
The Rainbow understands that unless the government comes up itj massive efforts especially in the creation of morw registration centres across the country it might still be forced to extend deadline even up to June.
