At the hearing on Yobe State governorship election tribunal in Abuja, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, alleged that the Yobe State Resident Electoral Commission, Mr Abu Zama, was paid N15 million bribe in the last general elections by the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), and the state governor Mr. Ibrahim Geidam.
An official of the anti-graft agency, Mr Odofin Christopher, told the Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja that an aide to the governor paid the N15 million bribe into two accounts of the State Electoral Commissioner with Diamond and Zenith Banks, three days before the governorship elections.
The petitioner and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adamu Waziri, are relying on the evidence of the anti-graft agency to nullify the April 11 governorship election in the state.
However, lawyers to the governor and his aide dismissed the EFCC report saying the allegation of bribery cannot be proven.
The petitioner is however confident that the evidence and testimony of the EFCC is a proof of his allegation of bribery before the tribunal
The tribunal has adjourned to Thursday, August 14 for cross examination of more witnesses.
