Card reader malfunction ensured that Nigeria’s election made a shoddy start as it took close 30 minutes for President Goodluck Jonathan to accredit in his native Otuoke, Bayelsa State.
Accreditation by INEC estimation should not take more than one minute.
Three card readers were unable to function before the fourth one baled the situation, according a report monitored fromThe Channels Television.
President Jonathan however endured the wait, while sweating profusely. But incidentally it took only one minute to accredit the First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan according to the report.
President Jonathan enjoined Nigerians to be patient with the INEC officials as they deploying the card reader technology for the first time. The President said that reports reaching him from across the country indicated mixed performance of the card reader, but that Nigerians should endure it for the sake of our dear country.
He said the whole world is watching Nigeria to see how far we will fare in this election, and Nigeria should not disappoint the world.
According to him, some presidents of other countries, including President Obama have called to encourage Nigeria for a peaceful election.
