Covenant University, one of the highly-rated private universities in Nigeria, has reopened for on-site academic activities.
The school has phased the reopening dates to maintain a manageable number of students returning in a day to enable the testing of the students for coronavirus infections.
Our correspondent learnt that students on the second year of study were scheduled to return to school on Thursday October 1, 2020 while first year students would be resuming on Friday October 2020. The students on third and fourth streams had earlier resumed on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
It was also learnt that the students are being asked to pay N10, 000 each for COVID-19 test.
Because of the sheer number of the returning students, parents are made to wait long hours to know the results of the tests conducted on their children or wards.
Some students were heard complaining that they were not sure whether the tests were on COVID-19 or other undisclosed purposes.
Some even cynically suggested the test could be for pregnancy tests.
The students had just completed their First Semester before they were forced to vacate the school as a result of the coronavirus pandemic lockdown late in March.
Our correspondent was told the students have actually completed their second semester lectures and would be facing the exams shortly after resumption is completed
