President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered investigation into the allegations various allegations of corruption being levelled against key members of his government of late.
The President directed the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, to carry out the investigation.
A statement by Senior Media Aide to the President, Garba Shehu, late on Sunday reads,
“The attention of the presidency has been drawn to a number of reports in the media, in which various accusations of corruption have been levelled against some top officials in the administration.
In that regard, President Muhammadu Buhari has instructed the Attorney General of the Federation to investigate the involvement of any top government officials accused of any wrong-doing.
“If any of them are liable, they will not escape prosecution, Garba Shehu’s terse statement reads.
The statement was however, silent on the names of the officials, but assured that anyone found culpable will not escape prosecution.
It wil be recalled Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF Babachir Lawal, was last week indicted by the Senate for awarding N200 million contract to his personal company. He immediately vehemently denied the allegation.
Also last week, the Senate declined to confirm Mr. Ibrahim Magu, as the substantive chairman of the Anti-Graft Agency, EFCC.
The Senate anchored its refusal to confirm Mr. Magu on a report recieved from the Secret Police, DSS, which allegedly indicted Mr. Magu of corruption.
Minister of Transportation,Rotimi Amaechi, and his Science and Technology counterpart, Ogbonnaya Onu, were also mentioned by an embattled Supreme Court justice Ngwuta as having made overtures to him to thwart the course of just.
Hajiya Naja’atu Muhammed, a member of the ruling APC, also called on President Buhari to remove some of his aides being accused of various cases of corrupt practices.
