Ahead of today’s extra-ordinary convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, stakeholders of the party in Kano State, yesterday, condemned the selection of delegates from the state.
Rising from a meeting in Kano, elders of the legacy parties that formed the APC, Alhaji Mustafa Dankadai of the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC), Danlami Hamza of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and Alhaji Musa Umar of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) described the process that produced the delegates as a gimmick.
In a statement issued by the trio in Kano yesterday, they said only members of ‘Kwankwasiyya group’ had knowledge of the election that produced the delegates to represent Kano APC at the convention.
The statement said: “The process of Kano State delegate election which was purported to have been conducted on Saturday throughout the state was fraught with irregularities, as members of legacy parties, we only became aware of the election of delegates a day to the exercise, thus, we were caught unawares and unprepared.
“Also reports gathered from those who took part in the ‘arrange’ exercise, indicated that names of delegates have already been manufactured by the Kwankwasiyya group, thereby rendering the exercise as a total gimmick.”
The statement, therefore, declared that, “based on those reasons, we the elders of the legacy parties in Kano State hereby condemn the illegal exercise which produced the present delegates that were dispatched to Abuja for the convention and vehemently reject the authentication of the so-called delegates who are representatives of Kwankwasiyya group, not the APC in Kano
