Contrary to media reports, the management of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), on Tuesday night denied extending Wednesday’s deadline for Heritage Bank to pay balance of the bid sum for Enterprise Bank Limited.
Heritage Bank has made the initial 20 per cent of N56 billion price, and should it fail to pay the remainder, Fidelity Bank, as reserve bidder will be required to make payment.
In an email, AMCON’s spokesman, Kayode Lambo, explained that “declared public holidays are not counted as part of the number of days within which Heritage Bank is required to make the payment.
“The story that Amcon extended the number of days by two days is therefore false,” he stressed.
Some newspapers (not Daily Independent) quoted Lambo, as saying the extension was as a result of the two-day holiday to mark the Muslim festival.
