Another stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State Ibim Semenatari has dumped the party ahead of the 2023 general elections. Semenatari, an ally of former Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, was the Commissioner for Information when Amaechi was Governor. The woman, who became popular for her benevolence and intelligence, was also a former acting Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). She was said to have fallen out with Amaechi following irreconcilable differences immediately she was removed from her position in NDDC. Signs of serious cracks emerged when Semenatari abandoned Amaechi to pitch tent with Vice-President Yemi Osibanjo during the race for the 2023 presidential ticket of the APC. Semenatari announced her resignation in a letter dated July 9 and addressed to the Chairman, Ward 5, Okirika. She said: “I write to resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from today. I appreciate the friendship, camaraderie and opportunities that this platform has provided me to serve my state, region and country even as I wish the party well”. (The Nation)
