PORT HARCOURT— Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has blamed the Presidency for the stagnation of the state’s economy.
The governor, at an interactive session with students of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, UOE, Port Harcourt, also dismissed insinuations in some quarters that the All Progressives Congress, APC, was an Islamic party with hidden intentions to Islamise the country.
According to him, the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and some other national leaders of the party, were Christians.
He said: “The political economy of Rivers State has been stagnated by the Presidency and their detractors. They do not mean well for our state.”
Governor Amaechi, who spoke against another Ikwerre man succeeding him as governor accused a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the state of allegedly diverting public funds meant for the construction of internal roads in the new Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium built by his administration.
“I am an Ikwerre man who has ruled for eight years and I am surprised to hear that the PDP is jostling to bring another Ikwerre governor in 2015. The PDP man who they want to bring as their gubernatorial candidate is an Ogboni man and not a Christian.”
He appealed to residents of the state to ensure they collect their permanent voters card, adding that those yet to register should endeavour to do so.
