Ekiti State students in tertiary institutions have appealed to
Governor-elect Ayo Fayose to reduce their tuition fees by at least 60
per cent when he assumes office
Chairman of NANS/Joint Campus Committee, Ekiti axis, Mr Musa Surajudeen,
made the appeal at a news conference in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday.
He said the fees being paid by students across state-owned higher
institutions were too high.
He said the fees ranged from N60,000 to N90,000per session depending on
the course.
He added that their parents were too poor to pay the fees for them
conveniently hence the need to have education policy with human face.
The students urged the governor-elect to place premium on youth
employment in order to curb robbery and other crimes in the society.
“Students deserve to enjoy comfort through affordable school fees
because it is part of our rights and those of our parents.
“We are demanding that hostels should also be provided in all the
state-owned institutions for quality service delivery and to prevent
crimes and extortion of students by landlords’’, he said.
Surajudeen also canvassed for the granting of autonomy to all the
state-owned institutions for them to be able to respond swiftly to
emergency matters.
He said that such could be resolved at the level of the management
without necessarily bringing such to the State Government
