From the early days of their relationship, when Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth were still teenagers, there was a sense that they were going to be forever.
So, why did it take more than a decade, which included a broken engagement, for the pair to finally tie the knot and why did they decide that now is the right time?
A source has told People that a lot of the reasoning was down to them ‘both maturing’ and deciding that they wanted to get married and this drove the somewhat impromptu nature of the ‘secret’ ceremony.
Of course, aging is not the only factor and everything from Liam not stressing over ‘Miley being Miley’ and the destruction of their dream Malibu home, in the Californian wildfires, all had their bearing.
The pair met in 2009, on the set of The Last Song, a romantic drama by Nicholas Sparks and sparks certainly flew as the teen couple hit it off from the start.
It would seem that the adversity of losing their home to fire became a major catalyst of late, with their bond growing stronger after this devastating natural disaster.
The source said that they had endured “a painful loss which deepened their bond,” as they were both, “devastated by the fire.”
With their relationship stronger than ever, they felt “it seemed like the perfect time for them to get married,” especially after Liam took charge of the aftermath from the fire which added, “another layer of love and security.”
An industry source has also elaborated to People that Liam’s ability to let Miley be herself and to have the, “intelligence and ability to deal with her ups and downs,” has helped them form the perfect union.
Ultimately, they were best friends and Miley, “adores his sense of loyalty, adventure and independence,” and the time was right for them to make the biggest step in commitment.
