Just as speculated in the past few days, another chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief Tom Ikimi, has left the party.
Ikim, who aspired to be the National of APC (APC), at its June convention, announced his withdrawal from the political party on Tuesday, thereby accentuating the recent woes of the party that prides itself as a progressive platform.
Ikim has had limited activities in the party since the party’s National Convention which produced Mr John Oyegun as the party’s national chairman.
Mr Ikimi in a statement made available to reporters on Tuesday said: “I have made the decision to withdraw my membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC) from today, 27th August 2014″.
Ikimi however failed to state exactly which political party he is defecting to, but all reasonable anticipation is that the political guru, who was the national chairman of the National Republican Convention (NRC) and a rank minister under the Late Sani Abacha regime will pitch his tent with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Other notable members of the party that jumped ship of late include the former Presidential Candidate of now defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, former Governor of Borno State, Modu Sheriff, former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani Kayode.
Most defected members of the APC of late had joined the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but it is not yet clear if Mr. Ikimi will be joining the PDP.
It was learnt that many members of the party are disgruntled over the highhandedness of the former Governor of Lagos State and leader of the APC, Mr. Bola Tinubu.
Some believe that the former governor is maneuvering activities of the party to make room for him to share ticket with former Head of State, Muhammed Buhari, in 2015 election.
