Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho reportedly expects to be named as Manchester United boss before the start of the 2016-17 season, with Ryan Giggs and Sir Alex Ferguson also linked with new roles at Old Trafford.
Current manager Louis van Gaal is under heavy pressure ahead of the Red Devils’ clash with rivals Liverpool on Sunday, with a defeat to make his position extremely precarious.
According to Mike McGrath of the Sun, Mourinho thinks he’s the man most likely to get the job and has already asked his usual backroom staff who would join him.
According to Steve Bates of the Sunday People (h/t the Sunday Mirror), if Van Gaal was to get the chop, Giggs would step in until the end of the season and be aided by legendary boss Ferguson, who retired from the position in 2013.

Giggs is currently Van Gaal’s assistant at Old Trafford and as we can see here courtesy of BreatheSport, there does seem to be something of a disconnect between the pair:
United are currently struggling to get back into the top-four spots in the Premier League despite another summer of big spending.
Compounding the problems for the Red Devils has been the moribund style which Van Gaal seems to favour, which is more than a few shades removed from the daring approach employed by Ferguson to great success.
Giggs, who spent his entire career at United, seems like an ideal candidate to step into role in the future and in Ferguson he couldn’t ask for a better adviser.
But given the side’s current predicament, the fact Mourinho is unattached and the potential of missing out on the Champions League, many Red Devils supporters would prefer to see a proven figure take the job on.
