Just as predicted, the Senate screening of former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, seems to be the most divisive.
Several petitions, mainly form his home state, have flooded the Senate seeking to debar his confirmation as minister.
Amaechi, every bit a controversial figure, has amassed a lot of supporters and enemies as well in his home state where he fought brutal war with his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party.
Reports indicate that Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions of the Senate could not sit to consider the petitions against him as it was unable to muster a quorum.
There speculations that the development was due to crack in the committee, but its chairman, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, was quick to dismiss them, saying there was no cause for alarm, dismissing allegations of a crack in their rank.
It was learnt that the panel has not been able to sit in the past three days despite being asked to hasten action on the petition by Senate President Bukola Saraki.
Its report would help the Senate determine how to handle the hot case of Amaechi screening, it was further learnt.
