Super Eagles Coach Stephen Keshi has ruled drafting Flying Eagles midfielder Kelechi Iheanacho to the senior national team to bolster the troubled midfield area.
Besides, the coach is not convinced that his team needed in-form striker Obafemi Martins anymore.
Keshi, who spoke to footballlive.ng, insists that the Manchester City midfielder is not yet ripe enough for the Super Eagles.
“Iheanacho is a good player but not for the Super Eagles now. He was in City’s preseason because they wanted to look at him and see if he has what they need.”
Iheanacho has been training with MLS side Columbus Crew in a bid to stay sharp and fit pending when he will be able to find regular playing time with the senior team of City or find a loan move elsewhere.
As for Martins, Keshi said the former Inter Milan striker has had his time with the national team.
“For Obafemi Martins, it’s good to indicate that you want to play for your nation, as a football player yes of course but we have other players upfront there and you have to give the younger players the opportunity to grow and that is what we are doing.”
Martins who plays for MLS side, Seattle Sounders, has been scoring freely in his recent games, posting a personal best of 13 goals and nine assists this season. Many Nigerian soccer enthusiasts are beginning to look his way as the messiah needed to save Eagles from being dumped out of AFCON 2015 qualification race.
