APC Leader Bola Tinubu on Friday paid a condolence visit to the family of late journalist, Dimgba Igwe, describing his death as a great loss to the nation.
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that Igwe, Vice Chairman of the Sun Newspapers, was killed on Sept. 6 in Lagos.
He was aged 58 years.
Tinubu, who returned to Nigeria on Thursday from London amidst speculations of ill-health, consoled the late Igwe’s widow, Mrs Obioma Igwe, promising to do all he could to have him immortalised.
“It is unfortunate that we lost such a gem. Igwe is a friend and was so intellectually gifted.
“He was patient, deep and had great intellectual curiosity,” Tinubu said.
Commenting on his (Tinubu) speculated ill health and death, Tinubu said that his presence was enough end the speculations.
“I had my last medical checkup in April. I am as strong as a horse.
“I wake up at 8 a.m. most times, having gone to bed often by 4.30 a.m., staying awake answering questions, meeting and planning.
“I decided to go for a rest. I never even had the need for any medication while overseas,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the Igwe family, veteran journalist and close associate of Igwe, Mr Mike Awoyinfa, said that “Dimgba would have been so proud to have Tinubu in his home if he was still alive.
“Dimgba holds you in high esteem and we were planning to do an autobiography before he died.
“I hope you will still let me do it to bring his dreams to fruition.”
Tinubu’s entourage included his wife, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu and former Interim National Chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande.
