Edo State House of Assembly on Wednesday approved a reduction in the budget of the state for the year from N159.3 billion to N127.1 billion.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the house in September 2014 passed a budget of N159.3 billion for services in the state during the year.
The budget was made up of recurrent expenditure of N62.9 billion and N64.19 billion capital vote.
The Speaker of the assembly, Mr Uyi Igbe, said the appropriation law earlier passed had to be amended because of the dwindling federal allocation to the state.
Igbe said: “we are reviewing the 2015 budget to reflect the actual reality of the nation’s economy.
“The ministries of Works and Environment were most affected by the reduction.’’
NAN reports that the house suspended relevant rules in order to review the budget.
Also, a bill for a law to amend the Political and Public Officers Emolument Law, 2007 was passed during the session. (NAN)
