When a top player is involved in transfer rumors, Manchester United is usually involved as well.
Always pegged as a possible destination for the most talented players in the world, United is reportedly targeting Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale for a move to Old Trafford this summer.
The Telegraph is reporting that Louis van Gaal has been given over $150 million to lure Bale back to the Premier League, as the Welsh star has endured a heavily-criticized season at Madrid.
With a likely return to the Champions League and a lucrative kit deal with Adidas to start next season, United is expected to have an added income of nearly $200 million to spend on transfers.
United is also targeting Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, Southampton back Nathaniel Clyne and PSV winger Memphis DePay.
Bale signed a six-year deal at the Bernabeu when he left Tottenham in 2013 for a world record transfer fee of more than $130 million.
Despite scoring 17 goals on the season, Bale has heard boos from the home crowd after going through a few spells of poor play throughout the year. With his family splitting time between Spain and Wales, it has been rumored Bale was interested in moving back to the Premier League.
It will be hard to get Real to sell a player like Bale, who has received support from club president Florentino Pérez. Either way, expect Manchester United to spend big this summer, and don’t expect the rumors to stop.
