A German Consortium efs-greentec is to invest over one billion US Dollars in Power Plants in Nigeria, according to the Facilitator and a Leading member of the Nigerian Community in Germany, Chief Joe Mmeh.
According to Mmeh, German Group´s is involved in Renewable Energies and projects that seek to protect the Environment for example Waste to Energy (Biomass), Landfills, Power Plants fired with Coal or Gas, Hydro-Electric Power Plants, Transmission Power Lines / Cable Installations, Public Water and Waste Water Treatment, Recycling, Water purification, Sea Water Desalination etc. Not only that efs-greentec brings capital, know-how and one-stop solution into Projects, they combine ecological with economic issues as well as share experiences with local Staff and Companies.
Mmeh said the German Group shall build and operate a Resource Center for Waste as Turnkey Solution. This includes Waste to Energy Power Plant, house-to-house refuse collection, Disposal and Recycling. About 1500 Nigerians shall gain Employment when the Resource Center fully goes into operation.
Apart from Electricity, Recycled Materials and Clean Environment, another major output from the Plant shall be cheap organic Fertilizer for the Nigeria Farmers. Other by-products like gas can be fed into National Gas Pipelines or bottled as cooking Gas.
Mmeh said, “Reliable and steady Power is the priority prerequisite for sustainable economic and industrial development of any Nation. And that increasing access to electricity in the urban and rural areas of Nigeria shall jump-start our economy, help in Job creation and improve the living standards of our People. Households, Manufacturers, Technicians, Artisans, Industries and Businesses that have been suffering until now, shall benefit immensely from our Power Projects which shall guarantee them access to Electricity 24/7/365. Again Rural-Urban migration shall be revised since with uninterrupted Electricity, villages shall become attractive to people and Industries to move in there”.
On Coal to Energy, Chief Mmeh said that efs-greentec Group shall invest and partner with a Nigerian Company being lead by an International Business Mogul to build a modern and environmental friendly Coal fired power Plant. “The importance of coal as source of Energy cannot be overemphasised but also its negative impact on the environment such as air pollution and high CO² emission etc. It could be recalled that Country like China has one of the worst environmental problems and air pollution mainly due to Coal fired Plants, therefore such problems shall be avoided in Nigeria in our quest to develop coal to energy, hence the need to use Experts with experience and the best technologies available that shall protect our environment as well as reduce CO² emission into the atmosphere. We, Nigerians need to learn lessons from the environmental pollution caused by Oil Companies and shall not allow any Power Generating Company to repeat same”. He mentioned that German Investors are also ready to invest in other Infrastructures in Nigeria under BOT or PPP.
He stated that, “there is no Country in the World today that can protect the Environment with their Expertise and Technologies better than Germany. Power Generation Technologies especially German products and engineering have little higher Prices at the beginning but that is understandable because they are more robust and last longer unlike most other Technologies which are cheap at the start but are more costly at the end due to frequent breakdowns, cost of repairs, parts replacements and negative impacts on the Environment”.
Chief Mmeh thanked President Jonathan for his transformation Agenda whose result includes improved economic and infrastructural development of Nigeria.
