Survey conducted by a coalition of civil society organisations have given a comfortable edge to the Peoples Democratic Party over its main rival, the All Progressives Congress.
In the Presidential Election National Survey Report presented to newsmen on Tuesday, PDP is projected to garner a national average of 61% votes in the forthcoming presidential election .
Going by the survey, APC has a national average of 37.63%, while other political parties lumped together could only make 1.34%.
Speaking during the presentation of the survey at a media briefing in Abuja, the National Coordinator of the Coalition For Democracy and Cedible Election in Abuja, Mohammed Attah , said the survey which was handled by experts engaged by the coalition.
Another presenter, Dr Yemi Oke, lecturer at the University of Lagos, noted that it was just a survey and not exactly a scientific exercise, adding that it observed that there are states where the ruling parties may actually have a tough battle from the opposition in this year’s election contrary to what happened in 2011.
Oke cited the case of Bayelsa where General Muhammadu Buhari’s CPC scored just 691 votes, pointing out that the opposition has obviously waxed stronger .
On the results of the survey from each of the six geo-political zones, he gave the projections as follows: North West, APC 56% PDP 43.14 %; South West, PDP 55.83% APC 44.17%; North East APC 51.67% , PDP 48.33% .
According to the CODESE survey, the PDP will score an average of 84.00% in the South East ,while APC will score 16.00%
In the South South, the Survey said PDP will score 80.17% while APC will get an average of 19.83% of the votes.
Organisers insisted the report presented was that of a survey as several other variables could impinge on the final outcome in the elections.
