Nigeria’s former Head of State, gen Abdulsalam Abubakr (retd) and former South African President, Thabo Mbeki, met with the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.) on Monday.
The meeting which held behind closed doors at the Jabi Road office of APC flagbearer in Kaduna is coming ahead of the rescheduled March 28 presidential election across the country.
The duo had earlier on Sunday met President Goodluck Jonathan, who is flying the flag of the ruling People’s Democratic Party in the coming presidential election.
Though none of the parties altered a word to journalists that besieged the venue after meeting that lasted for about one hour, it is believed to have centered on the need for the leading candidates in the coming election to eschew violence and restrain their members from making statements that are capable of derailing the nascent democracy in the country
. Abubakar, who is also the Chairman of the Peace Accord signed by the two leading presidential candidates, left for the Kaduna International Airport to catch a flight back to Abuja, after a photo session to signal the end of the meeting at about 11am.
