A 25-year old articulated lorry driver identified as Anthony but popularly known as Oshiomhole, was Monday morning shot dead by yet to be identified persons.
Anthony was said to have been shot by his assailants in the chest and in the eye at the popular Iyaro street in Benin City.
A colleague of the decease who gave his name as Zakari Musa, told journalists that they were informed about the incident at about 3:00 a.m. on Monday.
“It was last night they called us at about 3am that they shot one of our drivers. Before we got there the police had taken the corpse to the mortuary.
“Police told us somebody called to inform them that the driver has been shot. We don’t know what happened or how he was killed. He parked at Iyaro for the night. You know Iyaro is a busy and popular place,” Musa said.
He said the late Anthony was on his way to deliver some goods at Ughelli in Delta when he decided to park at Iyaro where night drivers usually relax.
When contacted on phone, Edo Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Noble Uwoh, said he was yet to be briefed on the incident.
