Jose Mourinho broke down in tears after his Roma side managed a 1-0 victory over Leicester City in UEFA Europe Conference League semi-final second leg on Thursday.
The former Chelsea coach was overwhelmed by emotion. saying he was tired and needed to go home.
Tammy Abraham’s early strike made the difference in the gruelling encounter at the Stadio Olimpico, giving the Italians a 2-1 victory on aggregate after the first leg ended 1-1 in England.
The final, which comes up on May 25, will now be between Roma and Dutch side, Feyenoord at the Air Albania Stadium.
Roma’s qualification makes Mourinho the first manager to reach the final of the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League.
The former Manchester United boss also has the chance to be the first manager to win all three competitions.
Mourinho, who waited eagerly for the final whistle, was unable to contain his emotions, as he was in tears as he hugged his coaching staff during their celebrations.
“I am so tired, I want to go home!” Mourinho told Sky Sport Italia after the game.
“It’s a victory for the family. Not just the one that was on the pitch and on the bench, but in the stadium. That is our greatest achievement, this empathy and sense of family we have created with the fans,” he said.
