Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has debunked reports alleging he received N4b from the former acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Ibrahim Magu, describing such reports as fake news.
Some reports being bandied in the media space claimed that Osinbajo also allegedly gave instructions to Magu to release some of the recovered loots.
President Muhammadu Buhari was sick for many months during his first term in office, during which Osinbajo acted in his stead.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Office of the Vice President, Laolu Akande, in a statement on Wednesday, described the report as baseless.
He said, “Inundated by wide circulation of Fake News about VP’s purported involvement in some EFCC recovery billions, please rest assured they’re all LIES: calculated to confuse and concocted to smear Prof. Osinbajo’s image.
“The VP hasn’t and will never be involved in any such shady activities.”
Magu whose confirmation was refused by the Senate had been acting as the Head of the Chairman of EFCC for more than four years.
He is facing corruption charges before a panel constituted by the Federal following heavy allegations made against by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.
