Enugu State Government will authorize the reopening of religious worship centres in the state effective May 10.
A community-focused online platform form Enugu Metro is reporting thst the development is a fallout of a meeting between religious leaders in the state and Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, in Enugu on Thursday.
The meeting resolved among other things that public worship for Christians could begin this Sunday with strict observance of the rules of the NCDC on public gathering, including observance of “social distancing with not more than 20 persons meeting in a hall at a given time. *
They aldo agreed to observe strictly the rules of hygiene such as washing of hands, use of hand sanitizers and face masks by worshippers are to be implemented
Under the ageed arrangement, pastors are to conduct short services and hammer to their members the need to protect themselves from the virus
They are also to ensure that no mass or service goes beyond 12.00 noon on Sundays.
Enugu Metro further reported that it was agreed that churches could hold as many sessions as they want for as long as they keep to the time and the number specified for each gathering.
A release to the clergy by one of the attendees, sighted by eMetro, stated that the religious leaders agreed to do periodic reviews of the situation with the Governor for the safety of the people.
“Ministers and pastors are to take personal responsibility to make sure the rules are obeyed,” the leader warned because, according to him, “any escalation of this virus may lead to another complete lockdown.”
