The Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olanisakin, has warned politicians to shun actions capable of jeopardizing national security in the 2019 general elections.
Olanisakin gave the warning in Sokoto yesterday during the assessment of the Disaster Response Unit of the 119 Forward Operation Base of the Nigerian Airforce, Sokoto.
He also urged politicians to use dialogue to resolve their differences as well as educate their supporters on the need to ensure peace.
Represented by the Director, Psychological Warfare of the Defence Headquarters, Major-General Habila Vintenaba, Olonisakin expressed the readiness of the Nigeria Army and other security agencies to maintain peace before, during and after the 2019 general elections.
“Armed forces and other paramilitary are deeply and ever ready to ensure all parts of the country are safe for political players prior, during and after election,” he said.
In his remarks, the Director-General of NEMA, Engineer Mustapha Maihaja who was represented by the Director Disaster and Response, stressed the need for collaborative efforts on disaster management among all the tiers of government.
He explained the visit was to obtain direct information on military formation readiness to disaster response and on ways to support them.
