Latest update from the Independent National Electoral Commission shows that 56.4 million Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) have been collected as at March 20, which was just two days before the final date for the collection of the card.
This means that a little over 12 million Nigerians could not collect their PVCs ahead of the election, as it unlikely that INEC would grant any further extension of the collection exercise, which ended Sunday March 22.
The commission register has 68.833,476 million voters for the elections holding March 28 and April 11.
The INEC update, which was made available to The Rainbow via email, in Abuja, indicates a collection rate of 81.98 per cent.
According to the latest updates, most states recorded between 60 per cent and above collection rate .
Ogun State, which used to record the lowest collection, recorded 49.45 per cent. Gombe and Zamfara recorded over 95 per cent.
On the possibility of INEC extending the collection exercise, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC chairman, Mr. Kayode Idowu, said he was not sure if the exercise would be extended.
Lagos still remains the third from the rear in terms of collection rate with 65 per cent as only 3.79 million registered voters collected their PVC out of the total of 5.82 million.
Ogun has the least collection rate at 61.53 per cent.
