KADUNA – Incumbent Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero secured a landslide victory at the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, gubernatorial primary election held Monday in Kaduna making him the flag bearer for 2015 gubernatorial election in Kaduna State.
Yero polled 970 votes out of the 972 total votes cast, while Senator Haruna Zego Azeez the co-contender scored one vote.
Earlier on, three of the five aspirants sent in their letters of withdrawal from the contest to the Chairman, Committee for Gubernatorial Primary, Dr. Steve Onu who later read them out to the delegates including the Vice President, Architect Namadi Sambo and officials.
Air Commodore John Bako (rtd), Alhaji Yakawada Lawal Samaila and Hon. Felix Hyat withdrew from the contest leaving the incumbent Governor Ramalan Yero and Senator Haruna Azeez to slug it out.
Air Commodore John Bako (rtd) opted out for Governor Yero, while the others withdrew on personal grounds.
Accreditation of delegates commenced at 1.30pm while voting began at 2:01pm, the election was peaceful and amidst water tight security by men of Army, Police and the Civil Defence Corps.
Governor Yero commended the delegates who voted for making him the flag bearer of the PDP in next year’s governorship election in the State. He promised to move along with everybody and urged the loser, Senator Haruna Azeez to join hands with him to make party successful in ensuing 2015 governorship in the state
