A 27-year-old woman, Patience Stephen, is now a guest of the police for almost killing her six-6-year-old daughter, Abigail, over allegations that the little girl allowed thieves to come into their apartment to steal her money.
The FCT Police command Commissioner, CP Wilson Inalegwu, who paraded Stephen yesterday, said some good Samaritans had rescued little Abigail from her mother, after she had inflicted cuts all over her body using a razor and seared parts of her body with a hot metal.
The neighbours had brought the girl to the Karimo Police Division, a suburb of Abuja, narrating her ordeal in the hands of her mother.
Speaking to journalists, Stephen said she punished the child, because she abandoned her house and allowed thieves to break in and steal the sum of N40,000 from the house.
Some police women said Stephen was arrested while she was attempting to travel out of the FCT, in order to escape justice.
“After she inflicted the injury on the girl, she locked her inside the house for five days, without taking her to the hospital for treatment,” one of the officers disclosed.
