For allegedly assaulting her sister and stealing her N10,000, a 29-year-old woman, Kelechi Okafor, on Monday appeared before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Kelechi, who resides at Ifelodun Street, Amukoko in Apapa, is being tried for a three-count offence of stealing, unlawful assault and breach of peace.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. John Iberedem, told the court that the accused committed the offences at her Amukoko apartment on Nov. 13 which she shared with her sister.
“The complainant said that she kept the sum of N 10,000 in her drawer, but to her surprise the money was no longer there when she checked.
“Oluchi decided to ask her sister about the money since she knew when she kept the money in the drawer.
“The complainant said that to her surprise, the accused started beating her and also tore her dress,’’ he said.
The offences, he added, contravened Sections 166,171 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 171and 285 prescribe three years jail term for assault occasioning harm and stealing.
The accused, however, entered a plea of `not guilty’.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, granted the accused bail in the sum of N10, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till Jan. 19, 2015 for trial.
