The permanent secretary, Ministry of Labour and Productivity, Dr Clement Illoh, has commended the outgoing minister of Labour and Productivity, Emeka Wogu, for his achievements in the labour sector during his time as minster.
Iloh stated this when the former minister handed over to him in Abuja. He noted that the successes of the minister in empowering the labour force and development of the sector were numerous, adding that these included landmarks recorded under the ministry’s component of Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P), especially in the areas of Community Services, Women and Youths Empowerment (CSWYE) Project and the Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Project.
According to him, under the charge of the minister, the CSWYE and TVET Projects of SURE-P employed over 150,000 Nigerian youths while more than 10,000 youths benefitted from its vocational skills acquisition projects, among others.
The permanent secretary also indicated that the minister facilitated the development of a document on checking Ebola disease in work places, adding that following the intervention of the minister, the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) had suspended its indefinite strike.
In his remarks, Wogu, who resigned his ministerial appointment as minister of Labour and Productivity to pursue his gubernatorial ambition implored the management and staff of the ministry and its parastatals to continue to support the implementation of the labour -friendly transformation agenda of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s administration.
The minister dedicated his achievements in the ministry to God and the workforce of the ministry, with appreciation to the president for the opportunity given him to serve the nation with integrity and patriotism.
