Violence and snatching of ballot boxes marred the conduct of the governorship election in some parts of Ekiti State on Saturday.
The violence included the dispersal of voters while on queues and the outright destruction of ballot boxes.
In Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, voters were beaten up and ballot boxes forcibly taken away in Okeyinmi, Federal Housing Estate, Okeila, Odo Ado among others.
The same scenario took place in Ijan, Ilumoba, and Agbado in Gboyin Local Government Area.
The same was reported in Ikole, Emure and Aramoko.
However, the situation would have been prevented if security agents were alive to their responsibility.
Instead of helping to prevent such electoral vices from happening, they helped in providing cover for the perpetrators.
Reacting to the development while casting his vote in Afao-Ekiti, Governor Ayodele Fayose, said such developments were blights on democracy in the country.
He wondered why the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government would be hell bent on taking over power in the state.
He added that the experience portended danger for the 2019 general elections in the country.
