Victor Moses’s strange career path took a well deserved positive turn on Saturday as he made his first Premier League start for Chelsea in over three years (1239 days, according to the Daily Mail). Not since a 2-1 win over Aston Villa in the second-to-last match of the 2012-13 season have we seen Moses’s name in the starting lineup.
The 25-year-old winger, who’s been impressing since the start of preseason, was deployed in a brand new and slightly surprising wing-back position, and ran his heart out for 85 minutes before being replaced by Pedro.
“I enjoyed myself out there today. There is a lot to do but I want to help the team. I have to go up and down but I kind of enjoy it to be honest, getting in one-v-one situations.”

Moses’s performance certainly caught the eye, his industrious running and willingness to take on his man a quality sometimes lacking in our other, more illustrious wingers (*cough*edenhazard*cough*). He may have lacked a consistent end product, but it certainly was not for a lack of effort.
“It was a great performance from Victor Moses. Your name isn’t important, but you have to be able to play my idea of football.”

The only sour note for Moses on the day was a slight post-match injury, which is likely to keep him out of Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying match next weekend.
Unfortunately I’m feeling my hamstring and so the club medical team will be reviewing me. Will be working hard to get fit asap#CFC
Hopefully the injury is nothing too serious. While others, in theory, could play this new right wing-back role, Moses certainly staked his claim on it against Hull.
