After the success he found there last season on loan, many had assumed that Victor Moses would end up back at Stoke City for this coming season as well. Whether on loan or on a permanent basis, perhaps as part of an Asmir Begovic deal, Moses to Stoke looked an obvious, foregone conclusion. And yet, he remains with Chelsea as we speak, and remains here firmly with hardly a transfer rumor linking him with a move away. Surprising. Meaningful?
“I think Chelsea have a view on Victor. What they’re thinking we believe is that they would possibly like to keep him. If they go into the market again that could change that idea.”
“Victor obviously came to us last year and did exceptionally well for us. There were a couple of injuries that hampered him unfortunately but he showed enough in his time with us that it made Chelsea very aware of the talent they have and what Victor could offer.”
“It could be that Victor now plays a part at Chelsea.”

Mourinho did try to recall the winger last January, so maybe giving Moses a chance to impress this summer is not so outrageous after all. Throw in the fact that the 24-year-old is homegrown, and that neither Salah nor Cuadrado have done much to challenge Willian for playing time, and maybe Moses does have a shot at the Chelsea first-team. Unless of course, as Hughes points out as well, we go shopping.
